Spring Hope Family Dentistry is the emergency dentist for Spring Hope and the towns around it: about 15 minutes from Rocky Mount, 10 from Nashville and 20 from Wilson. Dr. Elie Abboud handles emergencies personally, and because extractions, root canals, crowns and denture repairs are all done in-house, the visit that stops the pain is usually the visit that fixes the problem.
What to Do Right Now

Knocked-out tooth
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. If it’s dirty, rinse it briefly with milk or water and do not scrub it. If you can, place it gently back in the socket and bite on gauze or a clean cloth to hold it. If you can’t, keep it in a cup of milk or tucked in your cheek. Call us on the way. A tooth reimplanted within about an hour has the best chance, so this is the one emergency where minutes matter.
Broken, cracked or chipped tooth
Rinse with warm water, save any pieces you can find, and put a cold compress on the outside of your cheek if there’s swelling. If a sharp edge is cutting your tongue, a bit of sugar-free gum or dental wax over it helps until we see you. Chips are usually simple; deep cracks need to be seen the same day so the nerve can be protected.
Toothache, swelling or an abscess
Rinse with warm salt water, floss gently to clear anything wedged between the teeth, and take over-the-counter pain relief as the label directs. Never put aspirin directly on the gum, it burns the tissue. A toothache that’s waking you up at night or comes with swelling is an infection until proven otherwise, and infections don’t wait politely. Call us the same day.
Lost crown or filling
Keep the crown if you have it. Over-the-counter temporary dental cement or even a dab of toothpaste can hold it in place for a day; avoid chewing on that side. This is rarely painful but the exposed tooth is fragile, so don’t let it go a week.
Broken denture
Don’t try to glue it, household adhesives ruin the acrylic and make the real repair harder. Bring the pieces in. We repair and reline dentures from any office, usually by the next business day.
Bleeding that won’t stop after an extraction
Fold clean gauze, bite firmly for a full 20 minutes without checking, and stay upright. A moistened tea bag works if you’re out of gauze. If it’s still bleeding steadily after that, call us.
When to go to the ER instead of a dentist: swelling that makes it hard to breathe or swallow, swelling spreading toward your eye or down your neck, a fever with facial swelling, bleeding you cannot control, or a possible broken jaw. Those are hospital problems first. Call us once you’re stable and we’ll take it from there.
What Happens at Your Emergency Visit
You’ll be seen by Dr. Abboud, not triaged by a form. We take a digital X-ray of the problem area, find the cause, and deal with the pain first. Most emergencies are handled the same visit: a tooth that can’t be saved is removed, an infected nerve gets a root canal started, a broken tooth gets a temporary or a same-visit crown, a lost filling is replaced. Nervous? We offer nitrous and oral sedation for emergency visits too.
The $99 covers the emergency exam and X-ray for new patients. Whatever treatment you need is quoted in writing before we start it, and you decide. If the tooth can wait a few days, we’ll tell you that too. Existing patients: just call, your emergency visit is handled like any other appointment.

A lot of our emergency patients drive in from outside Spring Hope, and the schedule is built for that. From Rocky Mount it's about 15 minutes west on US-64. Is a toothache a dental emergency?
If it's waking you up, throbbing, or comes with swelling, yes. Pain that bad usually means the nerve is inflamed or infected, and both get worse rather than better on their own. Call the same day.
Can you see me today?
Almost always. We hold time in the schedule for urgent visits every day we're open. Call or text early and we'll give you the first opening.
What does the $99 emergency exam include?
A focused exam of the problem tooth or area and the X-ray needed to diagnose it, for new patients. Treatment is quoted separately in writing before anything is done, and you're never obligated to proceed.
Can you pull the tooth the same day?
Usually, yes. Dr. Abboud does extractions, including surgical extractions and wisdom teeth, here in the office. If the tooth can be saved instead, we'll show you that option and what it costs.
Do you take walk-ins?
We'd rather you call or text first so we can hold a room, but if you can't, come in and we'll work you into the day as quickly as we can.
What if it's after hours or the weekend?
Text us and we'll respond first thing the next morning. If you have swelling that affects breathing or swallowing, a fever with facial swelling, or bleeding you can't control, go to the emergency room first.
